Parameters of Service Provision

1. Service is provided on the basis of:

  • The availability of funded and licensed bed space
  • Written consent of the client to accept the services. If the client is incapable because of a legal, mental or physical disability that prevents her understanding and having the ability to accept the services, the client’s agent provides written consent.

2. PCWESA offers services to women in the following order of priority:

  • Abused women with children.
  • Abused women without children.
  • Women in crisis.
  • Other women in need.

3. PCWESA does not charge a fee for shelter services.

4. PCWESA provides accommodation and support for twenty-one (21) days in most circumstances. The Executive Director is responsible for granting extensions for stays over twenty-one (21) days.

5. Non-Admissions
Admission may be denied to:

  • Women who are assessed to be better served by another agency or service.
  • Women who are intoxicated or under the influence of illegal drugs.
  • Women who may present a risk to other clients or staff.
  • Women who have been previously asked to leave the shelter.
  • Women who are relatives of staff members (in cases of potential conflicts of interest).
  • Depending on circumstances, women who are immediate relatives of clients who are presently in shelter.
  • Any child under the age of eighteen (18) who is not accompanied by their legal guardian.
